Myanmar, the official name of the Southeast Asian nation also known as Burma, is dotted with thousands of Buddhist temples. The picture above captures hot air balloons in Old Bagan, the country's heart.

Another temple in Old Bagan. Buddhism plays an important role in Burmese society with many temples and monasteries dotted throughout the country. In Bagan alone, there are more than 2,000 temples and pagodas still surviving from the 10th to 13th centuries.

In a traditional village, the monastery is the center of cultural life. Most of the country practices Buddhism, which is considered the national religion, with a monastic population of 500,000.

Taung Tha Mang Lake. Peaceful sceneries are present across Myanmar. Temples, lakes, villages are commonly swathed in an atmosphere of calm.

Tofu Village, real name Khaung Daing, was originally inhabited by native Intha people. It is home to around 300 villagers producing a famed variety of tofu made of yellow chickpeas and popular in local cuisine.

"These days, protracted civil unrest has strongly affected the Burmese spirit. Honestly, I hope Myanmar would soon embrace peace for a better future," Trinh said.
