Seventy kite surfers from 15 countries will arrive in the south-central province of Ninh Thuan next week for a water sport festival.

The kite surfing, in which people move across water by standing on a board and holding onto the strings of a large kite, will take place along My Hoa beach, one of the most beautiful in Ninh Thuan with smooth white sands and year-round wind.

The festival from December 16 to 25 will also feature a boat race, a women's beach volleyball tournament, a 8-kilometer mountain running race to conquer Binh Tien-Vinh Hy coastal road, a golf competition, an ochna mai blossom festival, a food festival, and a street carnival.

Tran Quoc Nam, chairman of Ninh Thuan, said the province hopes to turn tourism into a key economic sector by 2025 and get 3.5 million visitors annually by then.

It also hopes to attract more foreign tourists, especially Russians, keen on adventure sports, he added.

Ninh Thuan is home to a number of attractions including a world biosphere reserve, Cham Kingdom relics and culture and beautiful sand dunes.

It has received 2.4 million tourists this year and aims to attract 2.7 million in 2023.
