Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, has outpaced Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to earn the title of the fastest-growing travel destination in Southeast Asia, according to American magazine Travel Off Path.

"The capital is a sprawling conurbation straddling the fast-flowing Chao Phraya River, boasting more Buddhist temples than one can possibly count and arguably the most riotous nightlife in the subcontinent," it wrote.

The capital city's Suvarnabhumi International Airport recorded 16% year-on-year increase in passengers last year, adding 407,081 airline seats while Don Mueang Airport experienced a growth of over 39%, contributing an additional 255,547 seats.

These figures brought the total airline seat count in the Bangkok metropolitan area to 662,628.

Silom Soi 4 is a must-visit destination where travelers can admire the Reclining Buddha and observe local rituals.

Other fastest-growing travel destinations in Southeast Asia include Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Phuket in Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam's largest island Phu Quoc.

Last year, research firm Euromonitor International named Bangkok the world's top tourism city which welcomed a record-breaking 32.4 million visitors.
