A group of 6,000 high-spending Indian tourists are expected to visit Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO heritage site in the northern province of Quang Ninh, from Aug. 29 to Sept. 3.

This would be one of the largest groups of Indian tourists to Ha Long ever, the Department of Tourism in Quang Ninh, home to Ha Long, said as cited by Vietnam News Agency.

Provincial authorities have discussed reception and security plans with relevant agencies to ensure safety for the visitors.

Around two hours from Hanoi, Ha Long is famous for its thousands of small vegetation-covered islands and towering limestone cliffs.

India is now one of Vietnam’s 10 largest sources of visitors, with 271,000 arrivals so far this year.

Previously, many Indian billionaires have hosted their weddings at popular tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc, Ha Long and Da Nang, boosting the country’s profile.
