Known as the "City of eternal spring," Da Lat offers a unique blend of romantic landscapes, colonial architecture, adventure sports, and vibrant markets.

1. Xuan Huong Lake – the heart of Da Lat

Xuan Huong Lake is the centerpiece of Da Lat, an escape in the heart of the city. This crescent-shaped lake is surrounded by pine forests, flower gardens and cafés, making it a favorite spot for relaxation and leisure activities. Visitors can jog, cycle or rent swan-shaped pedal boats for VND50,000 (US$2) per hour. The best times to visit are early morning, when the mist hovers over the water, creating a dreamlike scene, and at sunset, when the lake reflects golden hues of the day's last sunlight. There are lots of cafes around the lake to lounge and enjoy Da Lat's famous artichoke tea while soaking in the tranquil views.

2. Da Lat Flower Garden – a wonderland of colors

As Vietnam's flower capital, Da Lat is home to the Da Lat Flower Garden, which spans 7,000 square meters and showcases over 300 species of flowers. Established in 1966, this beautifully landscaped park features roses, orchids, tulips, hydrangeas, and more, which bloom year-round. The best time to visit is during the Da Lat Flower Festival, held every two years in December or January when the city is transformed into a floral wonderland. The entrance fee is VND50,000 ($2) per person, making it an affordable must-see for nature lovers. Visitors can stroll through the gardens, take pictures by its fountains or even buy potted plants and seeds as souvenirs.

Standing at 2,167 meters, it is the highest peak in Da Lat, offering panoramic views of the Golden Valley, Silver Stream and Dankia Lake. Visitors can choose between a two-hour hike through pine forests and a jeep ride for VND100,000 ($4) per person to reach the summit. Paragliding is available for thrill-seekers, allowing you to soar over the stunning landscape. The mountain is steeped in legends about the tragic love story of Lang and Biang, which add a mystical charm to this spectacular destination.

Da Lat is renowned for its lush tea plantations, particularly in Cau Dat, 25 kilometers from its center. These rolling green hills provide an ideal setting for photography and relaxation.

Visitors can learn about the tea-making process, sample fresh oolong and green tea and immerse themselves in the serene atmosphere. Early morning mist creates an enchanting setting, making it a must-visit spot for nature lovers and tea enthusiasts.

The Crazy House, officially known as Hang Nga Guesthouse, is one of the most unique and whimsical architectural landmarks in Vietnam. This ever-evolving attraction feels like something out of a fairy tale and fascinates one with its unconventional art and architecture.

Designed by Vietnamese architect Dang Viet Nga, this surreal structure resembles a giant tree with twisting staircases, maze-like hallways and dreamlike animal-themed rooms. Each of its rooms has a theme, such as the Kangaroo Room, Tiger Room and Bear Room, and features organic, nature-inspired designs.

The entrance fee is VND60,000 ($2.50), while overnight stays range from VND1,000,000 to 2,000,000 ($39-78).

6. St. Nicholas Cathedral – a glimpse of Da Lat's French heritage

Datanla Waterfall, situated five kilometers from the city center, is one of Da Lat's most thrilling sights. Unlike other waterfalls that require long treks, Datanla has an alpine coaster system, allowing visitors to ride down a winding track through a forest to reach the falls. This exhilarating ride costs VND80,000–150,000 ($3-6) depending on length. Alternatively, a cable car ride offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains. Adventure seekers can also try canyoning and abseiling, making Datanla a top destination for thrill-seekers.

9. Valley of Love – a romantic escape

Originally developed by the French in the 1930s, the Valley of Love is one of Da Lat's most picturesque and romantic destinations. Surrounded by rolling green hills, colorful flower gardens, and tranquil lakes, it is a popular getaway for couples and honeymooners. Visitors can enjoy swan boat rides for VND70,000 ($2.75) an hour, ride a horse or sit in a horse-drawn carriage for VND150,000 ($6) for a fairy-tale-like experience. The valley's many walking trails lead to scenic viewpoints overlooking the serene countryside.

10. Da Lat Night Market – a food lover's dream

For a taste of the city's nightlife, the Dalat Night Market is the place to be. It is packed with street food stalls and souvenir and handicraft shops. The stalls' must-try dishes include banh trang nuong (Crispy grilled rice paper snack) for VND20,000–30,000, warm sweet soup for VND15,000, and fresh soy milk and strawberries for VND10,000–20,000 per serving. The market is also a great place to shop for woollen scarves, handcrafted trinkets and dried fruits, making it an ideal place for both food lovers and souvenir hunters.

11. Bao Dai's Summer Palace – a royal retreat

This historic palace was the summer retreat of Vietnam's last emperor, Bao Dai. The Art Deco-inspired mansion provides a glimpse into royal life with its vintage furniture, elegant decor and stunning views of Da Lat. Visitors can explore the rooms, admire the imperial artifacts and learn about Vietnam's history. The entrance fee is VND40,000 ($1.60).

12. Elephant Waterfall – a majestic natural wonder

Located 30 kilometers from Da Lat is Elephant Waterfall, one of the most powerful and breathtaking in the region. Named after a rock formation resembling an elephant, this 30-meter-high cascade is an impressive sight, especially during the rainy season when the water flow is strongest. A rocky hiking trail leads visitors to the base, where they can feel the refreshing mist and take photos. Linh An Pagoda nearby has a giant golden laughing Buddha to add a spiritual touch to the visit. The entrance fee is VND20,000.

13. Da Lat Railway Station – a historical gem

Built in the 1930s, Da Lat Railway Station is one of Vietnam's oldest and most charming train stations, recognized for its distinctive French colonial architecture with a steep, triangular roof inspired by the traditional communal houses of the Central Highlands. The station's well-preserved design includes stained glass windows, vintage ticket counters, and antique steam locomotives that transport visitors back in time.

Though no longer serving long-distance travel, the station operates a short yet scenic train ride to Trai Mat village, allowing passengers to enjoy the countryside, lush pine forests and dazzling flower fields. At the end of the ride, visitors can explore Linh Phuoc Pagoda, famous for its intricate mosaic artwork made from broken porcelain and glass.
