According to the Singapore Police Force, officers were alerted to the theft on Jan. 23 after the tie clip was reported missing from a retail store in the transit area.
CCTV footage showed a man slipping the item into his left pocket and leaving the shop without paying.
Police then identified the suspect, a 25-year-old man carrying Indian nationality, but he had already left Singapore by the time they tracked him down, The Straits Times reported.
On Jan. 28, the man returned to Changi Airport while in transit and was promptly detained by police, who recovered the stolen tie clip from his belongings.
If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both.
This is not the first time foreign travelers have been arrested for theft at Changi , known for its luxury shopping options.
In December, a 62-year-old Indian woman was arrested for allegedly stealing perfume bottles and souvenirs worth over S$1,100 before boarding her flight.
