Incheon International Airport in South Korea has withdrawn its plan to designate exclusive security lanes for celebrities in the departure area after facing widespread public backlash.

Initially scheduled to begin on Oct. 28, the plan has been temporarily halted, with officials stating that alternative measures will be considered to address overcrowding and passenger safety, The Korea Herald reported.

The airport had last week proposed the special gate to reduce congestion caused by fans gathering to see popular entertainers.

However, the plan drew criticism from lawmakers and the public, who viewed it as preferential treatment and expressed concerns over the lack of clarity regarding who would be eligible to use the designated lanes, Allkpop reported.

In South Korea, K-pop celebrities' fame is largely driven by the dedication of their fanbase.
