The tourist, who goes by Indah, shared her experience in a Facebook post on Nov. 6. She noted that her order included "one potato, one tofu, four okras, two tofu skins, a small portion of chicken, and a serving of rice," adding that she could not understand why it cost so much.
Indah asked the restaurant's staff if there had been a mistake with her bill. The staff explained that prices were based on the weight of each order.
Acknowledging her oversight, Indah admitted she had not checked online reviews before visiting the restaurant, The Independent Singapore reported.
"I’ll be more careful next time," she concluded in her post.
Her post has since attracted hundreds of comments, with many users sharing similar experiences.
Some agreed that the restaurant's prices were high.
One commenter mentioned they had paid S$38 for a meal at the same restaurant, calling it their "first and last time" dining there.
Another questioned, "Did the seller use a machine to weigh the veggies and meat? Customers should be informed of the price per gram."
Singapore is the only Southeast Asian city to feature in Condé Nast Traveler’s list of the world’s top 10 cities for food. However, high dining costs have led to complaints from some foreign visitors.
Recently, a tourist from China stated she would never return to Singapore due to the high prices and poor food quality, sparking mixed reactions online.
