The new feature started on Tuesday, and a Korean tourist named Minsik was among the first to try this time-saving service as he returned home from his trip in central Vietnam.
The kiosks are equipped with touch screens that display bilingual instructions.
Minsik took two minutes to complete his self-check-in. During the initial phase, the designated area housing the five devices will be staffed with a 24/7 Passenger Assistant Team to provide support to travelers.
The focus of the service is for passengers with simple travel documents. Currently, the self-check-in kiosks primarily serve Korean customers traveling with Korean Air flights, which operate two flights per day from Da Nang carrying 260 passengers each.
A representative from Korean Air said self-check-in is also available in other Vietnamese airports Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, and Cam Ranh, and the decision to introduce this service at Da Nang airport's international terminal was influenced by its rapid infrastructure development and Da Nang's attractiveness for Korean travelers.
The terminal is also investing in a luggage self-check-in system which will be operational from October.
Da Nang welcomed over 1.14 million international visitors in the first seven months of the year, an increase of 7.7 times compared to the same period last year.
According to Hau, the terminal received approximately 16,000 arrivals and departures daily in July. The city is developing new flight routes to destinations like India, and Australia, and restoring Da Nang's appeal to Korean and Chinese tourists.
The synchronized operation of self-check-in, self-check-in luggage, and auto-boarding systems is expected to reduce passenger processing time from around 15 minutes to 2-5 minutes.
