Olympic champion Carlos Yulo receives $260K home as latest reward for sporting success

According to Inquirer, the house, located on a 500-square-meter lot in the Prime Peak Town House Subdivision in Tagaytay, a popular vacation destination south of Manila, was officially handed over to Yulo by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Bambol Tolentino. Yulo expressed his gratitude for the gesture, emphasizing that such incentives motivate him to continue pushing for greater success.

"Bonuses such as this new house from the POC will motivate me to push myself [harder]," Yulo said.

This reward was also extended to other Olympic medalists, including boxing bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, who were similarly gifted newly-constructed homes in Tagaytay. Tolentino, who is also the mayor of Tagaytay, praised the athletes, stating: "They’re not only our Olympic heroes, all of them are national treasures."

"This is what we’ve been doing since I became POC president—to keep the athletes inspired to win more medals for our country," he added.

According to Forbes, 25-year-old Yulo is celebrated as the most decorated Filipino gymnast in history. He made history by becoming the first Filipino to win two gold medals in a single Olympics, taking victories in the floor exercise and vault at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

As of Aug. 2024, Yulo’s incentives have surpassed 113 million pesos, according to The Manila Times. These rewards include a three-bedroom condominium in Manila’s McKinley Hill worth 32 million pesos, as reported by Fortune magazine. Additionally, he has received cash and lifetime supplies of various food items, such as buffets, baked mac and cheese, and chicken inasal from multiple restaurant chains.

However, despite these accolades, Yulo’s personal life has drawn attention, particularly his ongoing public feud with his mother Angelica Poquiz Yulo. Reports suggest that the feud originated from mismanagement of his finances and incentives, as well as her criticism of his girlfriend, content creator Chloe San Jose.
