The airline confirmed the incident occurred on flight D7326, which was en route from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Chengdu, China on Monday evening, Malay Mail reported.
A man seated behind a group of women asked them to quiet down so he could sleep. When the women continued chatting, tensions flared, New York Post reported.
The man allegedly called the group "stupid," told them to "shut up," and insisted, "I want to sleep."
Videos of the confrontation have circulated widely on social media. As seen in one video, a woman in a green outfit climbed over her seat to punch the man.
According to another passenger on the flight, another woman joined in, and they began hitting the man, who ducked behind his food tray.
Flight attendants intervened to separate the individuals involved.
AirAsia X told Channel News Asia that its crew responded "swiftly and professionally" in line with safety procedures.
Authorities were alerted and met the aircraft upon arrival.
The incident did not affect the airline's return schedules or overall operations.
According to the South China Morning Post, five Chinese nationals were involved in the altercation. Three were arrested by airport police, while the remaining two were fined.
AirAsia X emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on disruptive behavior, reminding passengers to remain respectful during their journeys to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone on board.
