A Chinese tourist was killed by a speeding truck in Thailand's Samut Prakan Province on Friday, the first day of his trip.

He had left his hotel to shop at a nearby convenience store and was returning to his hotel when the tragic accident occurred.

Security cameras showed the pickup truck traveling at high speed with its horn blaring and hitting the man who was walking on a zebra crossing, Bangkok Post reported.

The truck driver did not stop afterwards and fled instead.

An emergency medical technician arrived at the scene, administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an effort to save the victim, but to no avail and he was confirmed dead at the scene, Thai PBS World reported.

The police said the truck had a fake license plate, and they are hunting for the driver.

A mutual visa-exemption agreement between China and Thailand took effect on Friday.
