Police in the Maldives are investigating the death of a Chinese man who fainted after diving at the Tiger Shark Point off Fuvahmulah City Thursday.

The victim was a 70-year-old Chinese tourist, police said as quoted by Maldives newspaper Sun.

According to police, the tourist had just returned to a diving boat following an underwater excursion.

While he was removing his dive suit when he suddenly fainted and lost consciousness.

Police were alerted about the incident and took him to a nearby hospital for emergency.

However, doctors confirmed he was dead on arrival.

The man was diving with a center based in Fuvahmulah, a popular destination in the southern Maldives known for its rich marine life and tiger shark diving.
