A British tourist was charged with harassment and mischief on Monday for allegedly causing a disturbance at Singapore's Changi Airport over a lost phone.

Richard Michael Roll Burridge, 57, is expected to plead guilty on March 20, according to The Straits Times.

If convicted of harassment, he faces up to six months in jail and a fine of up to S$5,000 (US$3,760) while a conviction for mischief carries a penalty of up to two years in jail and a fine.

On March 8, as he was about to board a flight to London, Burridge realized he had misplaced his mobile phone. He then decided to leave the aircraft to search for it in the airport lounge, where he had been earlier, Channel News Asia reported.

An airline staff member at the gate-hold room told him not to leave, as the flight was close to its scheduled departure time. He was also informed that doing so would result in his removal from the flight.

However, he shouted at the staff with abusive words before kicking a wall panel on a nearby aerobridge, causing damage.

As a result, he was removed from the flight, and police were called in.
