Hanoi is working on a bicycle-exclusive road spanning 4 km through Cau Giay and Dong Da Districts, getting it ready to open on Feb. 1.

Dozens of construction workers have been working on the lane, situated along To Lich River. While some clean up the environment, others draw markings and make room for bike stations.

The road will be the first bike-exclusive lane in the capital. This route connects directly with the Lang Station of Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line, and station No. 8 of Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line.

There would be six public bike stations on the route. The unit responsible for the bikes said around 100 ordinary bicycles and electric ones would be available.

The road, with an investment cost at VND65 billion ($2.64 million), has been in use since 2019. Initially, the path was used as a place for people to stroll and do physical exercises. After four years, the route has been degraded and infested with trash. It was also frequently blocked for the construction of the Yen Xa wastewater treatment project.

Besides the path alongside To Lich River, Hanoi also plans to make the sidewalks around the Hoa Binh Park and Hoang Minh Thao Street of Bac Tu Liem District bike-exclusive. The total length of the bike-exclusive route would be 5.7 km, with the section on Hoang Minh Thao Street spanning 4 km.
