Organizers have revealed the first-ever VnExpress Marathon (VM) Hue medal design, featuring the fan dance of the last feudal capital.

The design was inspired by the "Vu Phien" fan dance performed at important parties in the former imperial capital Hue.

The overall shape replicates a spreading fan and has a width of 100 millimeters, height of 65 millimeters and thickness of 4.5 millimeters.

It is made from durable zinc material and coated with a copper gold color to match the aesthetic theme of the race, which will see athletes pass through shaded streets and many hundred-year-old landmarks.

The medal carries the image of Hue's famous Thien Mu Pagoda surrounded by figures of Hue Imperial Citadel and Hue High School for the Gifted, the city's first high school built by the Nguyen Dynasty emperor Thanh Thai in 1896.

Besides the three mentioned landmarks, runners will also pass by other iconic structures, including Pavilion of Edicts and Truong Tien Bridge, one of the first steel bridges built during the Indochina period of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

"The design, color and detail of the medal are all inspired by landmarks dotting the marathon course," a representative of the organizing committee said.

All runners finishing VM Hue 2020, scheduled for December 27, will receive the same medal, but with a different color lanyard depending on their distance - red (five kilometers), purple-green (10 kilometers), blue (21 kilometers) and green (42 kilometers).
