Vietnamese volleyball star Tran Thi Thanh Thuy is set to join PFU BlueCats in the top division volleyball league of Japan.

Four months ago, an agreement had been reached between Binh Dien Long An and BlueCats on the transfer of Thuy. However, the league in Japan was pushed back from August to October due to Covid-19 and Thuy had to wait a few months to officially join BlueCats.

The official website of BlueCats has also announced the squad list for the 2021-2022 season, which includes Thuy.

The season will comprise 132 games with 12 teams competing from Oct. 15, 2021 to March 27, 2022.

BlueCats will play their first game of the season on Oct. 16 against Thuy’s old club Denso Airybees. In 2019, Thuy joined Airybees for one season, helping the club finish in the top four. It was also her first time playing in Japan.

Thuy’s salary at Airybees was around $200,000 for a season. This time, BlueCats didn’t reveal the number but it would not be less than what Airybees has paid her.

The 23-year-old will fly to Japan on Saturday night and stay 14 days in quarantine before joining BlueCats. After that, Thuy will have 10 more days to train before the season starts.

Thuy is Vietnam’s number one female player and the captain of the women’s national volleyball team. With a height of 1.93 meters, she’s the most lethal outside hitter on the team.
