Tam was the only competitor who could lift 93 kg in the snatch event and won gold. In the clean and jerk event, she lifted 115 kilograms, placed third and claimed bronze. Tam got a silver after registering a total weight of 208 kg, behind gold medalist Long Xue of China with 209 kg.
Two months ago, Tam, 19, participated in the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships and registered a total weight of 200 kg.
Also competing in the women’s 59 kg event was Hoang Thi Duyen, who just returned from injury so she was only able to place fourth with a total registered weight of 199 kg.
Vietnam have won six gold so far at the Asian Weightlifting Championships, taking place from October 6 to 16 in Bahrain. Before Tam, Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan also won gold in the men’s 61 kg clean and jerk event, Lai Gia Thanh placed first in the men’s 55 kg snatch event and Khong My Phuong with two gold medals in the women’s 45 kg event.
