Thursday victories so far have raised Vietnam's gold tally at the tournament to nine.

Vietnam have also won three silver medals on Thursday in gymnastics, judo and canoeing, as well as two bronze in canoeing and taekwondo.

Vietnam can win around 10 more gold medals today from athletics.

Athletics athletes will begin with several finals including Ho Trong Manh Hung and Tran Van Dien (men's triple jump) at 4:50 p.m., Luong Duc Phuoc and Sam Van Doi (men's 1,500m) at 5:30 p.m., Bui Thi Ngan and Nguyen Khanh Linh (women's 1,500 m) at 6:05 p.m., Le Thi Cam Dung (women's discus throw) at 6:15 p.m., and the men's and women's 100 m finals if Ngan Ngoc Nghia, Ha Thi Thu, and Hoang Du Y qualify.

In the women's 1,500m race, defending champion Nguyen Thi Oanh did not participate, as she wanted to focus on winning gold in the remaining three events: 5,000 m, 10,000 m, and 3,000 m steeplechase. The athletics team also expressed confidence that Bui Thi Ngan or Nguyen Khanh Linh were capable of winning the gold medal in the women's 1,500 m.

Golf was the earliest sport to start today, beginning at 8 a.m. in Chonburi, with Nguyen Trong Hoang, Ho Anh Huy, Nguyen Tuan Anh, and Nguyen Anh Minh competing in the men's team and singles qualifying rounds.

Last year, Vietnam won a gold medal in the men's singles thanks to Le Khanh Hung, a silver medal in the men's team event and a bronze medal in the men's singles thanks to Nguyen Anh Minh.
