Meta CEO and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg expressed disappointment after failing to complete a 5 km run in under 20 minutes.

Participating in the Stanford Medicine MyHeart Counts marathon on April 28 in Stanford, California, Zuckerberg used the pseudonym "Martin Salzburg" to avoid drawing attention to himself and his family. He completed the race in 20 minutes and 35 seconds, placing fourth in the 40–44 age group and 33rd overall out of 1,214 runners.

The 40-year-old tech billionaire shared a post-race photo on Instagram, writing: "Annual 5k run with Guerrilla fight crew. Finished a bit above 20 mins."

He then congratulated a friend who won the age group.

In a subtle nod to his disappointment, Zuckerberg included the song "Pretty Slowly" by Benson Boone in the post.

Wearing Nike Alphafly 3 super shoes, Zuckerberg fell short of his sub-20-minute goal, a result he achieved in 2023 with a time of 19 minutes and 34.8 seconds. In 2022, just five months after undergoing knee surgery, he completed the race in 20.58 minutes.

The annual marathon is held on the Stanford University campus near Meta’s Menlo Park headquarters and raises funds for the Stanford Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease Research. Zuckerberg, a frequent participant, has supported the cause for years.

A fitness enthusiast, Zuckerberg often shares his athletic pursuits. In 2016, he celebrated reaching his goal of running 367 miles (587 km) for the year by July, boasting a personal best pace of 3.42 minutes per km.

More recently, Zuckerberg has turned to combat sports such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts as part of his stress-relief and fitness routine.
