The contracts of both assistants end in November, with VFF deciding not to grant them extensions since there are no U23 tournaments ahead, at least until SEA Games 31 next year.
When coach Park extended his contract with VFF earlier this month, he requested to focus solely on the national team after SEA Games 31 and let another coach take over the U23 team. Therefore, parting ways with the two South Korean assistants might serve to reconstruct the U23 coaching team.
"Parting ways with Kim Han-yoon and Kim Huyn-tae will not affect national team preparations for AFF Cup because they are U23 assistants. We will find replacements who may also be South Korean," a VFF official told VnExpress.
Kim Han-yoon has worked in Vietnam since 2019. He is considered Park’s right arm in the U23 team and played an important role in Vietnam’s victory in SEA Games 30 men’s football in 2019.
Kim Huyn-tae has been a goalkeeper assistant for the team since late 2020, contributing to the development of young keepers like Nguyen Van Toan and Quan Van Chuan.
The two took charge of the U23 team with Park and the national team involved in World Cup qualifiers. They had helped the youth squad qualify for U23 Asian Cup 2022.
