Vietnam announce 23-man squad for AFC U23 Championship qualifiers

Vietnam have named a 23-member team for the AFC U23 Championship qualifiers that kick off on Friday.

It includes six key players who played in the AFF Cup and Asian Cup -- goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung, centre backs Nguyen Thanh Chung and Tran Dinh Trong, full back Doan Van Hau, midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai, and striker Ha Duc Chinh.

A notable absentee is injured striker Nguyen Tien Linh.

But coach Park Hang-seo can make changes to the squad until the technical meeting later on Thursday.

Vietnam are placed along with Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand in group K, whose matches will be played in Hanoi.

Vietnam play the three respectively on March 22, 24 and 26.

Only the top team are assured of entry into the next round.

The qualifiers kick off with the Vietnam-Brunei match at 8 p.m. Vietnam time at the My Dinh National Stadium.

At the previous edition in January 2018, Vietnam threw a magnificient performance to enter the final, where they lost to Uzbekistan in the last minute of extra time.
