The number of Indians visiting Singapore has increased by 13% year-on-year this year to 898,000, making India the third-largest source of visitors for the island overtaking Australia.

Australia, which previously was in third position, fell to fifth place with 857,000 behind Malaysia (874,000), according to Singapore's Tourism Board.

China and Indonesia occupy the top two places.

Before the Covid-induced lockdown, in 2019, Singapore had received 1.4 million tourists from India.

Last year the number was over a million, and this year, the country expects to get 1.5 million.

Singapore has long been a popular destination for Indian travelers due to its proximity and vibrant multicultural environment.

In recent times several Southeast Asian countries have adopted flexible visa policies to draw tourists from the world's most populous country.

Thailand and Malaysia have waived visa requirements for Indians.
