Thailand routed Taiwan 6–1 to seize first place in Group D in the final stage of 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on Tuesday night.

Goals: Bo-wei 46' — Teerasak 4', 62', 76'; Seksan 25'; Supachok 45'+1; Tzu-ming (own goal) 90'+2.

Thailand had defeated Taiwan 2–0 in the first leg at Rajamangala Stadium on Oct. 9. The experience from that match helped Chanathip Songkrasin and his teammates better understand their opponents, allowing them to perform much better in the second leg, despite playing away at Taipei Municipal Stadium.

Coach Masatada made four changes for the match. In defense, central defender Saringkan Promsupa replaced the injured Jonathan Khemdee. On the left wing, Wanchai Jarunongkran was assigned in place of Apisit Sorada. In attack, Ben Davis and Jaroensak Wonggorn were replaced by Seksan Ratree and Teerasak Poeiphimai.

The first half showcased the brilliance of Supachok Sarachat, whose contributions helped Thailand score twice in just 25 minutes. In the 4th minute, the 1998-born midfielder's precise through ball allowed Teerasak to accelerate and chip the ball over the goalkeeper’s head from about 25 meters, finding the back of the net. In the 25th minute, Supachok delivered an even more exquisite pass, threading the ball through four Taiwanese players. Seksan raced into the penalty area and expertly placed a single touch into the right corner to double Thailand's lead.

Supachok, who plays in Japan for Consadole Sapporo, added his name to the scoreboard in the first minute of the first half's injury time. Starting from the right wing, his initial step into the penalty area was not flawless, but it was enough to guide the ball into the bottom left corner.

Taiwan had just one good chance in the 39th minute, stemming from a mistimed pass by Chanathip in midfield. The Taiwanese player intercepted the ball and passed it to Haitian-born striker Benchy Estama, who sprinted forward. However, Saringkan made a crucial interception just before Estama could finish inside the box.

But just 35 seconds into the second half, Thailand unexpectedly conceded a goal. Kuo Po-wei seized the opportunity and fired a powerful left-footed shot into the right corner, reducing the gap to 1-3.

But that was all Taiwan could muster. Striker Teerasak completed his hat-trick with goals in the 62nd and 76th minutes. In the second minute of injury time, Santiphap sent in a cross that hit Huang Tzu-ming, deflecting the ball into his own net and sealing the score at 6-1.

The biggest win since the start of the final qualifying round for the 2027 Asian Cup temporarily put Thailand at the top of Group D with 9 points. Taiwan’s elimination was confirmed, with only two matches remaining.

Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka, both trailing Thailand by three points, are set to meet at 8:45 p.m. at Arkadag Stadium. A draw would be a win for Thailand. If Turkmenistan wins, they will take the top spot in the group, thanks to a better head-to-head record against Thailand.
