Former German footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger and his wife, former tennis star Ana Ivanovic, are reportedly living apart amid growing speculation of a rift in their marriage.

According to German newspaper Bunte, the high-profile sports couple separated two months ago and are said to be living in different countries.

Schweinsteiger, the former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder, is frequently away on business and primarily resides in Munich, while Ivanovic has returned to her hometown of Belgrade, Serbia, with their three sons. The former Serbian tennis star is reportedly living in an apartment close to her parents’ home.

Bild reported that the couple began feeling pressure in their relationship after spending less time together. Although photos of the two still remain on their social media accounts, they have rarely posted any new photos together since the start of the year.

Neither Schweinsteiger nor Ivanovic has addressed the breakup rumors publicly. Their management has stated that the couple does not comment on private matters. Last summer, Schweinsteiger drew attention for a remark about Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, saying that he was distracted by her appearance.

Schweinsteiger first met Ivanovic in 2014, and he proposed to the Serbian star shortly after in London. They married in July 2016, just months after Ivanovic’s retirement from professional tennis. They went on to welcome three sons.

Ivanovic enjoyed a decorated career, highlighted by her 2008 Roland Garros title and reaching the top spot in the WTA rankings the same year. Schweinsteiger, meanwhile, is considered one of Germany’s greatest midfielders. During his 18-year career, he won eight Bundesliga titles, seven German Cups and a Champions League title with Bayern Munich. After joining Manchester United in 2015, he added the League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League to his trophy haul. He concluded his career with Chicago Fire in the MLS, retiring in 2019.

On the international stage, Schweinsteiger earned 121 caps for Germany and played a key role in the team’s 2014 World Cup victory in Brazil. He recently visited Vietnam from April 8 to 12 and is currently in Jakarta, Indonesia, on a business trip.
