National fencers will compete against the continent's best at the Asian championship from June 17-22 in Wuxi, China.

A team of 24 athletes including 32nd SEA Games champions such as Vu Thanh An, Nguyen Tien Nhat and Bui Thu Ha will compete at the event.

"All the best fencers in Asia will take part in the event," said Phung Le Quang of the Fencing Department of the Vietnam Sports Administration.

"They are at a very high level and have different styles of fencing. Vietnamese athletes will gain a lot of experience from them."

Among competitors, An in men's saber and Nhat in men's epee are top two athletes who can get high results in Wuxi.

An took a bronze medal here in 2016 while Nhat finish third at the 2019 edition.

"We hope that An and Nhat, two of the most experienced fencers in the team, will reach their peak and be in good mood at the tournament," said Quang.

"High results in his championship will help them to earn points for the Paris Olympics campaign."
