British tour operator GuruWalk recently listed Hanoi, HCMC and Hoi An as Vietnam’s representatives among the world’s 100 best cities to discover on foot, but readers strongly disagreed.

"Walking in HCMC? The paths are completely blocked with food vendors?"

"Best walking zones with fast passing hooting motorcycles."

"Please, try to walk in ANY city in most other countries. You'll find out what WALKING actually means. None of those places is safe for "discovering the city while walking", BY ANY MEANS. Just no."

"Guruwalk missed out on the best city to walk in Vietnam....Hue !!! Let's be happy that they missed that one, otherwise Hue would be run over by tourists! How Hanoi and HCM are on the list with all the traffic and pollution is unbelievable!"

"True not always easy to walk on sidewalks in HCMC and Hanoi but progress has been made. Just came back from a 10 days Hue - Da Nang trip, and I must say that both cities are easier to walk. In Da Nang I explored side streets filled with blooming bougainvillea while walking directly in the streets. Sure both city sizes cannot be compared to Hanoi and HCMC. Da Nang and Hue, both were cleaner than before. Way to go Vietnam."
