Hanoi to review 20-year delayed urban project

The project in Chi Dong, Me Linh District has only completed clearing land in 25 out of 70 hectares, and this has caused major impact on local residents’ lives for years, according to the Hanoi People’s Committee.

The project was developed by a venture between two companies, CEO and Construction Company No. 9, which received permits for land clearance in August 2005.

Me Linh District, back then, belonged to Hanoi’s neighboring province of Vinh Phuc.

But since the district was merged into Hanoi in 2008, local residents demanded that they be compensated according to Hanoi land prices, not Vinh Phuc’s.

Hanoi authorities have tasked the Department of Natural Resources and Environment in assisting the two developers in completing the land clearance.

Hanoi has recently confiscated three property projects that have been delayed for years, all located in Me Linh District.

In 2008, one month before the district was merged into Hanoi, dozens of projects were approved by Vinh Phuc authorities.
