Beach town Vung Tau near Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam has become the favorite destination of Vietnamese tourists in the third quarter, a report says.

The coastal town gained 16.5% of votes, followed by Da Nang and Hanoi that shared the second position at 10.2%, according to a report by travel firm Outbox Consulting based on an analysis of Vietnamese tourists.

Around 110 kilometers from downtown HCMC, Vung Tau has always been one of the hottest destinations in the south during national holidays as crowds flood the three-kilometer-long Bai Sau, also known as Thuy Van beach.

Ho Chi Minh City came in fourth and the central beach resort city Nha Trang ranked fifth.

South Korea was named the top favorite outbound destination in the third quarter with a voting rate of 26%, followed by Thailand, Japan, Taiwan and mainland China.

More than 70% of respondents voted Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air as their two most loved domestic airlines to book air tickets.

Vietnam Airlines is loved for its service quality while Vietjet Air offers budget-friendly air ticket prices.

Vietnam's tourism industry has recently witnessed positive signs as the number of Vietnamese tourists traveling abroad between January and September reached over 3.8 million, up 2.5 times year-on-year.

Vietnam has served over 90 million domestic tourists so far this year.
