Hanoi and HCMC among top 100 cities

In the latest city rankings for 2023, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City secured positions among the top 100 cities in the world.

The data originates from an annual report produced by global market research company Euromonitor International in collaboration with data company Lighthouse, with Ho Chi Minh City ranked 85th and Hanoi at 98th.

Experts worldwide evaluated and scored cities based on 55 metrics across six criteria: economic and business performance; tourism performance; tourism infrastructure; tourism policy and attractiveness; health and safety, and sustainability.

Paris clinched the top spot for the third consecutive year, followed by Dubai in second place. Tokyo made its debut in the top 10, securing the fourth position after Madrid, thanks to enhanced tourism infrastructure.

Completing the top 10 were Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, New York, Barcelona, and London.

Europe dominated the rankings, with seven cities in the top 10 and a total of 63 in the top 100.

In the top 20, Asia shined with Singapore at 11th, Seoul at 14th, Osaka at 16th, and Hong Kong at 17th.

Other Southeast Asian countries acknowledged in the top 100 include Thailand and Malaysia, with Bangkok at 33rd, Phuket at 80th, Pattaya-Chonburi at 84th, and Johor Bahru at 87th.

According to the report, global travel has shown a significant recovery in 2023, with the number of international trips projected to reach 1.3 billion by the close of 2023, contributing to approximately $1.7 trillion in world tourism spending.

In terms of international arrivals for 2023, Istanbul claimed the top spot, followed by London and Dubai.

Hong Kong and Bangkok experienced remarkable year-on-year growth rates. Hong Kong saw a 2,495% increase and Bangkok experienced a 142% rise.
