Vietnam has set out plans to receive 35 million international tourists by 2030, up from 12.6 million last year, which readers called a grandiose plan that needs strong actions.

"It is a nice goal but what is the plan to improve transportation, clean up the streets of HCMC, Hanoi and other cities and make them safe to walk around for everyone? Look at what Thailand and Singapore are doing for transportation visa and pollution!"

"Impossible without drastic measures, everyone knows and sees the problems, so they have to act now to change something."

"Vietnam must first tackle existing problems, such as infrastructure, transportation, cleanliness and pricing."

"HCMC desperately needs the big Long Thanh airport to be finished. But it is still under construction, after numerous delays, and won't be opened (allegedly) until mid-2026 -- which probably means 2027. Same with the much delayed HCMC Metro Line 1, which now won't start operating until Q4 this year. Good luck. These plans will likely turn into vapour."

"They could easily hit these numbers years ahead of schedule if they just waived visas for 50 countries and spent a little bit of that tax revenue improving the airports and cleaning up the place. More people might be repeat visitors too."

"Unless Vietnam sorts out immigration desks at airports, those tourists are going to turn right back. All it takes is more manpower and better training!"
