A 21-year-old university student is under investigation for allegedly killing her own newborn daughter at a rented apartment in Ho Chi Minh City's Binh Thanh District.

According to the investigation, Binh Thanh District Hospital reported to local police on the afternoon of October 2 that a young woman came to have her health checked, and doctors found that she had just given birth, but it was not clear where the baby was.

The woman was then identified as a native of south-central Binh Thuan Province and a university student in the city. She was staying with her cousin at a rented apartment in an alley of Bach Dang Street in Binh Thanh.

When police inspected the apartment, they found a plastic bag with the body of a newborn baby girl inside. Police found two injuries on the baby's body that were caused by sharp objects.

When speaking to the police, the woman admitted that she had given birth to a baby girl, but the child was "too weak and died right after birth."

An investigation reportedly determined that she had planned to kill her child. The woman is now under arrest and facing murder charge.
