The deceased patients are a 44-year-old man in HCMC and a 68-year-old woman in the southern province of Kien Giang, the Ministry of Health announced.
The man, who had type 2 diabetes, tested positive for the coronavirus on June 14 and eventually ended up at the ICU of the Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital in HCMC. Despite numerous treatments, he responded poorly and died on June 22 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19, septic shock and multiple organ failure.
The woman, who had type 2 diabetes and hypertension, tested positive for the coronavirus on June 16 and was sent to the Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital as well. She also responded poorly to treatments and died on June 23 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and septic shock.
The country's ongoing Covid-19 wave, the fourth and by far the most challenging, started on April 27 and has seen 11,014 infections in 47 of its 63 cities and provinces. 39 deaths have been reported in this wave.
