At a cybersecurity event in HCMC last week, Ngo Vu Tuan Khanh, an executive in the Russian firm, said Vietnam has come a long way in digital transformation, and the greater the connectivity, the more the online threats.
The threats include online scams and cryptocurrency thefts, he said.
Last year Kaspersky stopped over 505 million cyberattacks globally.
They included 207,506 in Southeast Asia, 15,499 of which were in Vietnam.
Vietnam was the most attacked country in the region after only Indonesia and Thailand.
There was a drop in the number of attacks aimed at Vietnam from 2021, but there were more online scams.
The scams have also evolved to utilize the latest technological trends like ChatGPT, metaverse, AI, and blockchains.
"It is not strange to see cybercriminals take aim at cryptocurrency wallet owners, and Vietnam tops the list of countries in crypto adoption," Khanh added.
Vietnam is where people put the biggest share of their money into cryptocurrency, according to the 2021 Global Crypto Adoption Index released by U.S. blockchain data platform Chainanalysis in September last year.
