Two one-year-old boys among eight new Covid-19 patients

Eight Vietnamese citizens returning from Angola, France and the U.S., including two one-year-old boys, were confirmed infected with the novel coronavirus Sunday evening.

Their addition takes Vietnam’s active case tally to 73.

"Patient 1161" is a 42-year-old woman from the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh.

"Patient 1162" is a 33-year-old man and "patient 1163" a 40-year-old woman, both from Hanoi’s Dong Da District, while "patient 1164" is a 47-year-old woman from Nha Trang in the central province of Khanh Hoa.

These four patients had landed October 21 at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC on Vietnam Airlines flight VN5010 from France and been quarantined on arrival at a centralized facility in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

Test results released Saturday by the provincial Center for Diseases Control confirmed they were positive for the novel coronavirus. They are being treated at the Long Dien District Medical Center in the southern province.

"Patient 1165" is a one-year-old boy and "patient 1166" a five-year-old girl, both from the central province of Ha Tinh. They are children of a 29-year-old woman who was confirmed positive Saturday evening.

"Patient 1167," a one-year-old boy from the northern province of Nam Dinh, is the son of a 26-year-old woman, who was also confirmed infected with the novel coronavirus Saturday evening.

The three children had arrived October 20 at the Van Don International Airport on Vietnam Airlines flight VN8 from Angola. They were quarantined in the northern province of Bac Giang Province on arrival and are now being treated along with their mothers at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

"Patient 1168" is a 64-year-old man from the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long. He was among 343 Vietnamese passengers repatriated from the U.S. on Vietnam Airlines flight VN431 that landed October 23 at the Da Nang Airport in central Vietnam. He had been quarantined at a facility in neighboring Quang Nam Province. Test results released Saturday by the provincial Center for Diseases Control showed he was positive. He is being treated at a general clinic in the province.

Vietnam's Covid-19 tally has risen to 1,168. Six patients were declared recovered Sunday, raising total recoveries to 1,057. The nation’s death toll from the pandemic stands at 35.

The country has gone 52 days without community transmission of the virus. More than 14,000 people are in quarantine at present.

Worldwide, over 43 million people have been infected, with fatalities climbing to over 1.1. million.
