12 overseas returnees are Vietnam’s latest Covid-19 infections

Twelve Vietnamese citizens returning from Angola, France, Germany and Russia were confirmed infected with the novel coronavirus Saturday evening, raising the country’s total active cases to 71.

"Patient 1149" is a 76-year-old man living in HCMC’s District 7 and "patient 1150" a 55-year-old man residing in Hanoi’s Dong Da District.

The duo landed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC on Vietnam Airlines flight VN5010 from France on October 21 and were sent to a centralized quarantine facility in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, which neighbors HCMC.

Test results released by the provincial Center for Diseases Control on Saturday confirmed them novel coronavirus positive, with both currently receiving treatment at Long Dien District’s medical center.

"Patient 1151" is a 43-year-old woman and "patient 1153" a 30-year-old man, both hailing from northern Thai Binh Province. "Patient 1152" is a 38-year-old man in northern Ninh Binh Province.

The trio returned from Russia and landed at Van Don International Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province on Vietnam Airlines flight VN5062 on October 16. They were subsequently quarantined at a military barracks in Ninh Binh Province.

Their second test results released Friday by Ninh Binh General Hospital confirmed they were positive for the coronavirus, with all are currently treated at a general clinic in Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh.

"Patient 1154" is a 25-year-old man living in northern Hai Phong City. "Patient 1155" is a 77-year-old man and "patient 1156" a 55-year-old woman, both from Hanoi's Ba Dinh District.

The trio returned from Germany on Vietnam Airlines flight VN36 and landed at Van Don Airport on October 23. They were transferred to a centralized quarantine facility in Thai Binh Province.

Test results released by Thai Binh's Center for Diseases Control on Saturday showed they were positive for the coronavirus.

Patient 1154" is being treated at Thai Binh's General Hospital while the remaining two are receiving treatment at Hanoi's National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

"Patient 1157" is a 26-year-old woman living in northern Nam Dinh Province. "Patient 1158" is a 48-year-old woman and "patient 1160" a 22-year-old man, both hailing from northern Hai Duong Province, while "patient 1159" is a 29-year-old woman from the central Ha Tinh Province.

They returned from Angola on October 20 and landed at Van Don International Airport on Vietnam Airlines flight VN8. They were quarantined in northern Bac Giang Province and are now being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

With the 12 latest additions, Vietnam's Covid-19 tally stands at 1,160. Two patients were declared recovered on Saturday, raising total recoveries to 1,059.

The country has gone 51 days without community transmission of the virus. More than 14,000 people are in quarantine at present. Its Covid-19 death toll stands at 35.

Worldwide, over 42 million people have been infected, with fatalities climbing to over 1.1. million.
