The 60-year-old woman was driving on the street at 9 a.m. when she collided with steel beams on a cyclo at an intersection in District 10. She fell off her motorbike and died, the motorbike being damaged in the front.
Witnesses said the steel beams hit the victim's chest. The beams had been covered on both ends with fabric, and were tied onto the cyclo with ropes. The cyclo was towed along by a man at the time.
The cyclo and the man towing it have been summoned by the police for an investigation. Police said the cyclo was carrying goods longer than what is allowed.
Rudimentary vehicles are not allowed to carry cumbersome, uncovered goods on the street as dictated by law. Violations can result in fines between VND80,000-100,000 ($3.29-4.12). If violations result in accidents that affect people's lives and health, violators can be imprisoned up to 10 years.
