Woman backs up car into jewelry store, kills security guard

A woman in northern Hai Phong City backed up her car into a jewelry store and hit a security guard, who later died at hospital.

Nguyen Mai Anh, 36, was reversing her car on the sidewalks of Cau Dat Street, Ngo Quyen District on Wednesday afternoon. As she could not control her car properly, it rammed into a jewelry store and hit Le Van Hanh, 63, a security guard at the store.

The car continued to hit a motorbike parked in the front of the shop, destroying the store’s glass door and cabinets.

Hanh suffered multiple injuries due to the impact and was taken to the Vietnam-Czech Friendship Hospital.

On Thursday, a representative of the Cau Dat Ward People’s Committee said the patient has died, Cong An Nhan Dan newspaper reported.

Anh did not have alcohol in her system at the point of the incident, authorities said, adding that she might have mistaken between her brakes and her pedals.
