About an hour after takeoff, a 57-year-old Vietnamese man began showing unusual symptoms. The flight crew issued a call for medical assistance, and three onboard doctors provided first aid, but the passenger's condition did not improve.
The captain decided to alter the flight path and make an emergency landing at Istanbul International Airport. Upon landing, the passenger was immediately transferred to a local medical facility for further treatment.
The plane was refueled and departed again at 5:32 p.m. local time, arriving in Ho Chi Minh City three hours and 20 minutes later than scheduled.
Vietnam Airlines has made several emergency landings recently to save a passenger's life. On June 29, flight VN7569 from Hanoi to Cam Ranh had to make a stop in Da Nang, and on May 5, flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt made an emergency landing in Turkey, for similar health-related situations.
The airline advises passengers to proactively check their health and consult a doctor before traveling, especially if there are any health concerns, to ensure flight safety.
