Charity ambulance hits electricity poles, leaving thousands with blackout

Three electricity poles in central Quang Binh Province were broken after being hit by an ambulance on late Monday night, leaving over 750 families with power outage.

Around 11 p.m. on Monday, Nguyen Hoang Anh, 27, drove an ambulance to take three patients home from hospital. The ambulance belonged to a charity group and Anh is a volunteer.

When arriving in Ba Don Town, the vehicle roamed into an electric pole and the force caused it and two other poles to break.

The accident broke one of the driver's legs and injured two other people on board. All were rushed to a local hospital for treatment on Monday night and are in stable condition. 

With the poles broken, the affected families in Quang Thuan Ward were left to deal with a blackout until Tuesday noon.

According to the Central Electricity Corporation, a member of Vietnam Electricity, the electricity supply in the area was recovered by Tuesday afternoon.

According to initial information, at the time of the accident, it was raining and the road was slippery. It is believed the driver tried to avoid a puddle, lost control, and crashed into a pole before he could stop.
