It happened at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Di An City when the tractor driver braked hard to avoid colliding with a motorbike in front.
His vehicle was carrying three steel coils weighing 20 tons each, and the chain tied to the coils broke when he braked.
Two of them fell off the vehicle and one crushed a motorbike coming beside the trailer.
Fortunately, two college students on the motorcycle jumped off just in time.
One of them said: "We were driving next to the truck. We only suffered some scratches when we jumped off."
The police are investigating.
Steel coils falling off trucks is not a rare occurrence in Vietnam since there are no mandatory requirements related to securing them while being transported.
Also, there are no restrictions on when and where tractor-trailers can carry the coils.
Drivers say they have to come up with their own ways to secure the coils based on their experience and discussions with other drivers.
