According to a plan approved by the city’s legislators, a compensation fund will be spent to clear a total of 1.7 hectares in District 4.
The project will cover 11.3 hectares in the three districts, but there is no need to clear site for the remaining area in Districts 1 and 7.
Named Nguyen Khoai Bridge-Street, the project will comprise two parts: a bridge that will stretch 2.5 km long, and the road that will run 2.3 km.
Costing VND3.7 trillion of the city's budget, it will also have an overpass.
It will link D1 Street in Him Lam residential area of District 7 with Ben Van Don Street in District 4 and Vo Van Kiet Street in District 1 by crossing Te Canal and Ben Nghe Canal.
As per the current plan, construction will start in District 1 later this year. In 2025, the compensation work will be completed and the entire site will be handed over so that the project will be fully completed within the next two years.
Once entering service, it will ease pressure on routes linking the southern part of the city with its downtown, which are routinely gridlocked as infrastructure projects have dragged on for years.
