A worker was killed in a methanol explosion at a paper factory in the northern Bac Ninh Province on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the factory, situated within the Phu Lam industrial cluster in Tien Du District.

The explosion sent the corrugated iron roof and fibro cement of the expansive factory soaring into the air before crashing to the ground.

A worker at a neighboring factory recounted the terrifying moment.

"I heard a loud blast followed by the sound of objects tumbling down. As I rushed outside, smoke and dust were billowing from the factory," the eyewitness said.

Local authorities later confirmed the explosion was triggered by methanol, leading to the death of one worker and injuries to another.

Police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The vicinity of the explosion is known for its numerous paper factories, which are predominantly constructed from corrugated iron and sprawl over extensive areas.

Bac Ninh Province is notable for housing manufacturing facilities of global tech giants, including Samsung and Foxconn.
