The unnamed boy was part of a group of four 7th and 8th graders from the Ham Nghi secondary school who went to the Ganh Nhay stream in Ninh Phuoc Commune on a Saturday excursion.
The student lost his footing and fell off a cliff after he and his friends climbed it to jump into the water, Nguyen Ngoc Hoang, chairman of the Ninh Phuoc People's Committee, said Sunday.
After almost a day of searching, the boy's body was found Sunday.
Other details of the accident were not revealed.
Hoang said that areas near streams can be slippery and dangerous. It was raining heavily when the accident happened, he added.
