A 32-year-old man from the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak Province was sentenced Friday to 30 years in jail for raping an unconscious woman.

The Dak Lak People’s Court sentenced Y Tong H'Dok to 20 years in jail for attempted murder and 10 years for rape.

On May 11, after a drinking party, H'Dok saw a 68-year-old woman walking on Le Duan Street in Buon Me Thuot Town. He hit her with a brick and after she fainted, he pulled her into an alley and raped her. When the woman eventually regained consciousness and tried to fight back, he punched her multiple times in the face.

He discarded his shoes and pants at the scene, went back to a friend’s place, changed his clothes and went to a park to sleep.

The next morning, locals found the woman heavily injured. After inspecting security camera footage, the police caught Y Tong H’Dok at the park.

He fully admitted to his crime at the court.
