The labor ministry wants the government to declare a five-day Reunification Day-Labor Day holiday with people taking April 29 off and working instead on May 4, Saturday.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs presented the proposal Thursday after gathering opinions about it from various ministries and other agencies. It said 13 of the 15 approved of the idea.

If the government too agrees, the country will get five days off from April 27 to May 1, instead of the usual two on April 30 and May 1.

The ministry said it received numerous petitions seeking a longer holiday for the sake of tourism.

People are waiting for a final decision to finalize their holiday plans.

Proposed amendments to the Labor Law are awaiting the government's decision on the lengths of the Lunar New Year and the National Day-Labor Day holidays.
