Ferrari driver turns himself in after causing deadly accident in Hanoi

Hanoi police said a man who had hit a motorcyclist while driving a Ferrari on Monday came forward a day later.

Hoang Bang Viet, 25, who lives in Hanoi's Nam Tu Liem District, came to a city police station around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police had requested Hanoi Center for Forensic Medicine to take his blood and urine samples to check if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The results have yet to be revealed.

Viet was driving the Ferrari with a diplomatic license plate on Le Quang Dao Street in Nam Tu Liem District at around 5 a.m. on Monday when he crashed into a Wave Honda motorbike moving in the same direction.

The accident killed the motorcyclist, a man named Le Dinh Hoi, 58, on the spot.

Viet said he and his girlfriend, who was in the front passenger seat, panicked and left the scene shortly after the collision.

Police said the car in the accident, a Ferrari 488 Pista, belongs to a foreign diplomat.

Produced in 2018, it can reach a speed of 340 kph.
