Da Nang fines company for breaking ban on gatherings

The Da Nang office of a HCMC company has been fined VND30 million ($1,300) for violating Covid-19 regulations on mass gatherings.

Vietnam Link Group JSC in Hai Chau District organized an event to promote its products on May 11, gathering more than 100 customers and staff.

But gatherings of more than five people in public and outside of offices and schools were prohibited as the city's fight to contain the pandemic.

Beauty salons, bars and pubs, dance clubs, karaoke and massage parlors, gaming cafes, and gyms were shut, pedestrians-only streets were cordoned off and night markets, festivals, cultural, religious, artistic, and sporting events, and swimming in beaches were prohibited.

Also on May 11 Hai Chau District also fined a poolroom run by man called Nguyen Tuan Anh, 36, VND15 million for remaining open.

Since May 5 the district alone has slapped fines of VND180 million for 53 violations.

Nationwide, authorities have collected VND554 million in 272 cases.

Since the latest Covid wave began in Vietnam on April 27, Da Nang has reported 144 cases out of the country’s 1,503 in 28 cities and provinces.
