A 64-year-old Chinese man was fatally stabbed following an altercation with an intoxicated local resident in southern Binh Duong Province, authorities reported.

Police in Binh Duong on Wednesday detained 23-year-old Ho Tien Phong on charges of murder in connection with the incident, which occurred late Tuesday night in Thuan An City.

According to police, Phong had been drinking with friends at an apartment when a dispute arose around 10 p.m. Phong, then intoxicated, reportedly left the apartment and attempted to harm himself.

While outside, Phong collided with a parked car belonging to the Chinese man. The car owner confronted Phong and struck him with a stick. Phong then returned to the apartment, retrieved a knife and attacked the Chinese man. The victim succumbed to his injuries en route to hospital.
