The patient, a worker from the nearby Lang Son Province, was sent to a medical center on Wednesday. Ultrasound and X-ray scans revealed that an eel was located within his gastrointestinal tracts and has perforated his intestines, resulting in peritonitis.
Surgeons later removed an eel that was 30 cm-long from his body, as well as cutting away a necrotized section of the rectum, and created an artificial stoma. Following the surgery, the patient continued to be monitored at the center.
It has not been confirmed exactly how the eel got inside the man’s body.
